It will also spur Kenya’s competitiveness and positioning in playing a critical role in the regional and global space agenda. The history of space activities in Kenya dates back to the 1960s with the establishment of a Satellite Launching and Tracking Base at Malindi. This was a collaborative effort between Kenya and Italy. Over twenty (20) sounding rockets and nine (9) satellites were launched from the facility between 1967 and 1988. Job Description

Role Overview

This position supports the enforcement arm of a national space regulatory framework, working to ensure that space-related activities—from satellite operations to remote sensing applications—comply with established laws, technical standards, and international best practices. Day to day, the officer reviews compliance across space programs, investigates complaints and disputes, coordinates with government partners, and contributes to awareness and training efforts. The role matters because it protects the integrity of space-derived data and ensures that the emerging space sector operates safely, responsibly, and in line with public policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and periodic review of enforcement policies, strategies, standards, and guidelines governing space-related activities.
  • Monitor space operators, establishments, and programs to verify compliance with applicable regulations, codes, and best practices, while providing technical input during enforcement processes.
  • Coordinate with relevant government agencies to ensure consistent application of space regulations and to address compliance gaps across sectors.
  • Investigate complaints or disputes between parties engaged in space-related activities, helping to prepare structured reports and preliminary recommendations.
  • Identify and document non-compliant entities, proposing sanctions or penalties under the supervision of senior officers.
  • Ensure that space-derived data used for decision-making meets required quality and reliability standards by enforcing technical norms and best practices.
  • Draft progress reports and action-status summaries on enforcement activities, providing input for managerial decision-making.
  • Contribute to public awareness campaigns, capacity-building programs, and knowledge-management initiatives designed to improve regulatory understanding among stakeholders.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, aeronautical or aerospace engineering, remote sensing, geographical information science, geospatial engineering, surveying, civil engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, telecommunications engineering, software engineering, information technology, computer science, control and instrumentation, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including standard office software and tools relevant to data handling, reporting, and communication.
  • Demonstrated merit and ability, reflected in solid work performance and measurable results in previous roles.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to interpret regulatory requirements and technical standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, delivering training, and liaising with government agencies and stakeholders.
