Role Overview
You will act as the on-site security presence for a student residence, making sure residents feel safe while also helping them feel welcome in their home away from home. Your day-to-day work blends proactive patrols, controlled access management, and responsive incident handling, with a strong focus on supporting students and keeping security procedures running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out regular foot patrols across common areas, corridors, and building perimeters, watching for safety hazards or unusual activity and serving as a visible point of contact for residents.
- Welcome and assist students, staff, and visitors with a professional and approachable manner, helping to resolve access issues or security concerns quickly.
- Operate the visitor sign-in and gate pass system, authorising entries and exits and ensuring that only authorised individuals gain access.
- Act as a first responder during fire alarms or other emergencies, assist with evacuations, and take part in scheduled fire drills to confirm readiness.
- Spot and document maintenance or safety concerns spotted during patrols, forwarding them to the relevant facilities team and checking that follow-up is completed.
- Apply and enforce the residence's security policies calmly and consistently, asking residents or visitors to comply when required.
- Record all incidents, observations, and follow-up actions in clear logs and pass on any suspicious behaviour or security breaches to the Security Team Leader without delay.
- Coordinate with other security team members and internal departments, attending briefings and raising ideas for making the residence safer and more welcoming.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school certificate or equivalent is required.
- At least one to two years of prior experience in a security role or comparable public-facing safety position.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to deal with students and visitors from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and clear-headed under pressure or during emergency situations.
- Good observational habits and a detail-focused mindset for spotting risks, inconsistencies, or unauthorised access.
- Working knowledge of basic security systems such as access control, CCTV, and incident reports.
- Willingness to cover flexible hours, including overnight shifts, weekends, and occasional holidays.
