Job Title: Emergency Medical Technician – Ambulance Operations
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to join our emergency response team. In this role, you will provide safe, timely, and efficient emergency medical transportation while supporting pre-hospital emergency care. Your primary responsibilities include ensuring ambulance readiness, maintaining a state of emergency response capability, and contributing to positive patient outcomes through professional driving, emergency medical support, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate emergency ambulances safely and efficiently, adhering to all traffic laws and defensive driving principles.
- Respond promptly to emergency calls, providing rapid transport and basic life support as needed.
- Assist paramedics and other medical staff in patient assessment, treatment, and monitoring during transit.
- Perform daily inspections and routine checks of the ambulance, equipment, and supplies to ensure full operational readiness.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the ambulance interior and exterior, following infection control protocols.
- Document trip details, patient information, and any incidents accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, medical teams, and receiving facilities to coordinate seamless patient handovers.
- Participate in ongoing training and drills to maintain advanced emergency medical skills and certification.
- Uphold all organizational policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements at all times.
Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) from a recognized institution.
- Valid practising licence where applicable.
- Valid Kenyan Driving Licence with the appropriate class for ambulance operation.
- Defensive driving certification is an added advantage.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – mandatory. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is an added advantage.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in ambulance operations or emergency medical services.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record and ability to navigate traffic and rough terrain efficiently.
- Strong patient assessment and basic life support skills under pressure.
- Ability to lift and move patients safely using proper techniques and equipment.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills in English and Swahili.
- High level of professionalism, empathy, and emotional resilience.
- Team player with the ability to work independently when required.
- Basic computer literacy for reporting and documentation.
Working Conditions
- Shift work including weekends, public holidays, and overnight rotations.
- Exposure to traumatic situations, infectious diseases, and variable weather conditions.
- Physically demanding role requiring frequent lifting, bending, and prolonged periods of alertness.
