Job Description

Role Overview

You will be the face of our safari operation, leading guests on unforgettable game drives through pristine wilderness areas. Each day involves tracking wildlife, interpreting animal behaviour, and weaving in stories of local heritage and conservation efforts — all while ensuring the safety, comfort, and delight of every guest on board. This role matters because our reputation rests on the quality of the safari experience you deliver from behind the wheel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily game drives, navigating terrain safely while positioning the vehicle for optimal wildlife viewing and photography opportunities.
  • Deliver accurate, engaging commentary on animal behaviour, ecology, and the broader conservation landscape, adapting to the interests of each group.
  • Provide warm, attentive guest care — from pre-drive briefings to post-drive assistance — anticipating needs and handling questions with patience and professionalism.
  • Inspect and maintain the safari vehicle before and after every trip, checking tires, fuel, fluids, and equipment, and promptly reporting any mechanical faults to the operations team.
  • Enforce safety protocols during drives and bush walks, including wildlife distancing, vehicle conduct, and emergency procedures.
  • Act as a cultural ambassador, sharing accurate insights into local communities, traditions, and responsible tourism practices.
  • Collaborate with lodge or camp staff to coordinate schedules, packed meals, and special guest requests such as sundowners or bush breakfasts.
  • Keep detailed records of wildlife sightings and guest feedback, contributing to daily reports and conservation monitoring efforts.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 'O' Level Certificate or equivalent secondary education.
  • Professional Tour Guiding qualification from a recognised institution, with a minimum Silver Medal in Tour Guiding.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience leading game drives or guided tours and managing guests in a hospitality setting.
  • Valid Driver's Licence and a current TSV (Tourism Service Vehicle) Licence.
  • Certified First Aid knowledge is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent verbal communication and guest engagement skills, with the ability to read a group and tailor commentary naturally.
  • Genuine passion for wildlife, conservation, and hospitality, reflected in a positive and proactive attitude.
  • Solid knowledge of local ecosystems, animal behaviour, and conservation practices.
  • Physically fit, energetic, and comfortable working long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and quick to act — comfortable making decisions in unpredictable environments.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
