Job Description

Role Overview

This is a clinical support position within a dental unit, where you will work side by side with dentists and other healthcare staff to keep patient appointments running smoothly. Your day-to-day focus will be on preparing treatment areas, assisting during dental procedures, and managing accurate patient records, all while maintaining a calm and hygienic environment. Your attention to detail and ability to keep pace with a busy clinic directly contribute to patient safety, comfort, and the overall efficiency of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, ensuring all instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterilized and arranged according to clinic protocols.
  • Assist the dentist chairside during a variety of procedures, including restorative, surgical, and preventive treatments, by passing instruments, managing suction, and preparing materials.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs, as well as digital impressions, ensuring patient positioning and image quality meet diagnostic standards.
  • Gather and record patient medical histories, vital signs, and treatment notes accurately in the practice management system.
  • Enter clinical data, prepare reports, and update patient charts on a daily basis to support continuity of care and administrative reporting needs.
  • Provide clear, reassuring instructions to patients on pre- and post-treatment care, and address any immediate questions or concerns at the chairside.
  • Inventory and order dental supplies, monitor expiration dates, and organize storage areas so the team always has what it needs.
  • Coordinate daily appointment flow, assist with patient scheduling, and collaborate with the wider medical team to minimise wait times and manage urgent cases effectively.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • At least two years of hands-on working experience as a Dental Assistant in an active dental unit or clinic.
  • A Diploma in Dental Assisting or an equivalent qualification recognised by the relevant health or dental authority.
  • Solid computer proficiency, including confident use of dental or clinical software for data entry, information retrieval, and generating routine reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling respectful collaboration with dentists, nurses, and other medical team members, as well as clear patient interaction.
  • Excellent attention to detail, especially when handling instruments, updating records, and following strict infection control and safety standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment, multitasking comfortably while prioritising tasks based on patient needs and team demands.
