Database Administrator – MySQL & EDB PostgreSQL

Role Overview

You will be the go-to person for keeping our MySQL and EDB PostgreSQL environments healthy, fast, and secure in a production setting. Your day-to-day involves installing and configuring database instances, safeguarding data through solid backup and recovery plans, and proactively spotting performance bottlenecks before they affect users. This role matters because reliable data infrastructure is the backbone of our operations, and your vigilance directly reduces downtime and data loss risks.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain MySQL and EDB PostgreSQL servers across development, staging, and production environments, ensuring consistent setup and version control.
• Design and execute backup and recovery strategies, including scheduled backups, point-in-time recovery testing, and documentation of restore procedures.
• Monitor database performance using tools like slow query logs, explain plans, and system metrics; fine-tune indexes, configuration parameters, and queries to keep response times low.
• Set up and manage high-availability configurations, including replication, failover mechanisms, and cluster health checks, to minimize service interruptions.
• Apply regular patching and version upgrades with minimal disruption, following change management processes and verifying application compatibility.
• Manage user accounts, roles, privileges, and data encryption to enforce security policies and comply with access control requirements.
• Troubleshoot database incidents such as connection spikes, replication lag, lock contention, and corruption; document root causes and preventive measures.
• Collaborate with developers and system administrators to support schema changes, data migrations, and capacity planning for growing workloads.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
• 3 to 4 years of hands-on experience specifically administering MySQL and EDB PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
• Strong command of SQL and database internals, including transaction isolation levels, indexing strategies, and query execution plans.
• Proven experience with backup tools (mysqldump, pg_dump, or similar) and recovery scenarios under real-world constraints.
• Working knowledge of replication topologies (master-slave, streaming replication) and failover tools such as Orchestrator or Patroni.
• Familiarity with Linux administration, shell scripting, and basic networking concepts relevant to database connectivity.
• Ability to respond calmly and methodically to production incidents, prioritizing service restoration while documenting actions taken.
