Dairy Farm Supervisor

Role Overview

This position takes charge of the daily running of the dairy unit, ensuring cows are healthy, milk output is efficient, and hygiene standards are high. The supervisor coordinates feeding, milking, and health routines while directly overseeing farm workers and maintaining accurate logs of production and animal data. As the farm scales up, this practical manager will help build reliable dairy systems that support long-term operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the health and welfare of the dairy herd by monitoring for signs of illness, coordinating veterinary visits, and managing vaccination, deworming, and reproduction programmes including heat detection, artificial insemination, and calving.
• Supervise all milking activities, enforce proper milking protocols, maintain hygiene during handling and storage, and ensure equipment is cleaned and serviced regularly; track individual cow milk volumes and flag any declines.
• Deliver feeding programmes by providing correct amounts of fodder, concentrates, minerals, and water; monitor feed inventories, reduce waste, and support fodder production and preservation as needed.
• Plan daily farm tasks, assign duties to workers, and inspect the cleanliness and condition of sheds, pens, feeding areas, tools, and machinery; manage manure collection and disposal.
• Keep thorough records of milk production, animal health events, breeding cycles, births, deaths, feed usage, and expenses; maintain a livestock register and prepare regular reports for management.
• Train, guide, and supervise farm workers to ensure they follow safety, hygiene, and operational procedures; address attendance, performance, and discipline while promoting teamwork and responsible animal handling.
• Control stocks of feeds, medicines, cleaning supplies, and other inputs; prevent theft or waste, verify deliveries, and assist in managing operating costs to improve farm productivity.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Certificate or Diploma in Dairy Production, Animal Health, Animal Production, Agriculture, or a closely related field.
• At least two years of hands-on experience working on a dairy farm, with demonstrated knowledge of feeding, breeding, milking, and disease prevention in dairy cattle.
• Basic proficiency in dairy farm record-keeping and fundamental numerical reporting skills.
• Previous experience supervising or coordinating farm workers is preferred.
• Strong practical dairy farming skills, good observational and problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work with minimal supervision.
• High level of honesty, reliability, and willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays when required.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to identify common health issues in dairy animals.
