Job Description
Role Overview
This position focuses on deploying and maintaining advanced nutrient detection and metabolic assessment tools specifically for seed tomato crops. Day to day, you will operate analytical equipment, establish reference baselines for plant nutrition, and convert raw data into actionable recommendations that directly influence crop health and yield. Your work matters because it ensures early identification of nutrient imbalances, supports precision fertigation decisions, and strengthens the farm’s overall nutrition strategy through close collaboration with R&D and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and calibrate diagnostic instruments used to measure metabolic activity and nutritional status in seed tomato plants, ensuring consistent baseline data across all populations.
- Write detailed operational guides covering configuration, routine operation, cleaning, and troubleshooting for each piece of nutrient analysis equipment.
- Lead hands-on training sessions for farm personnel and external stakeholders, covering proper tool usage, data interpretation, and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Map the flow of nutrition data from field sampling through lab analysis to reporting, and coordinate with R&D departments to align testing protocols with broader crop nutrition strategies.
- Monitor crop nutrition continuously, flag deficiency or toxicity symptoms, and propose corrective measures such as adjusted fertigation regimes or foliar applications.
- Investigate abnormal plant health events or yield anomalies by conducting targeted nutrient analyses and root cause assessments.
- Compile regular nutrition status reports for management, highlighting trends, outliers, and evidence-based recommendations for process improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of all baseline measurements, analysis logs, and maintenance activities in line with internal documentation standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting enhancements to sampling methods, tool selection, or data workflows.
- Enforce Good Seed Production Practices (GSPP) and phytosanitary regulations, and champion Syngenta HSE policies during all field and lab activities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Solid understanding of plant physiology, crop nutrition, common pest and disease cycles, and fertigation system design.
- Hands-on experience operating analytical instruments for nutrient detection (e.g., chlorophyll meters, sap analyzers, spectrophotometers) and interpreting metabolic indicator data.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure, maintain intellectual honesty in data recording, and communicate findings clearly in written and spoken English.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with farm workers, agronomists, R&D partners, and management.
