Role Overview
This role carries front-line responsibility for turning programme plans into measurable change within the communities we serve. Day to day, you will work alongside county government teams, local organisations and community structures to design, deliver and review activities that improve outcomes for children and young people, while making sure safeguarding standards hold firm everywhere our work reaches. Success in the position depends on your ability to manage budgets and reporting with the same care you bring to relationships, because the credibility of the entire programme rests on both.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and oversee community-level programme activities in the assigned county, converting programme objectives into practical work plans, schedules and deliverables.
- Act as a safeguarding lead for programme activities, ensuring that child and youth safeguarding guidelines are understood, applied and monitored among staff, partners, volunteers and community participants.
- Identify, build and sustain long-term partnerships with county government departments, civil society organisations, corporate partners and community leadership structures that advance shared goals.
- Prepare activity budgets, monitor expenditure against plans, and produce accurate financial reports for internal and donor review.
- Compile programme reports, monitoring updates and documentation that capture results, lessons learned and evidence of impact.
- Facilitate community meetings, trainings, workshops and stakeholder forums, adapting content and approach to suit different audiences.
- Represent the organisation at county coordination meetings, technical working groups and partner engagements, communicating positions clearly and professionally.
- Maintain programme databases and records, ensuring information is accurate, current and accessible for reporting and decision-making.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in development studies, project management, community development studies or another related social science discipline.
- At least three years of relevant working experience, preferably gained within an NGO setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of child and youth safeguarding guidelines.
- Proven ability to conceptualise, innovate and manage programmes from design through to delivery.
- Track record of cultivating long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with local communities, key state departments, CSOs and corporate organisations.
- Hands-on experience with budget preparation and financial reporting.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation and representation skills.
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the ability to work with various databases.
- Well-developed organisational, analytical and programmatic reporting abilities.
- Strong planning, prioritisation and execution skills, with the capacity to take accountability for results and the achievement of objectives.
- Ability to work under pressure, make sound decisions and manage multiple tasks at once.
- Enthusiastic, decisive, pragmatic and dynamic, with a hands-on approach, a sense of urgency and close attention to detail.
- A valid Certificate of Good Conduct issued within the last six months.
- Please note: for positions based in Bungoma, Turkana and Kilifi Counties, female candidates and candidates fluent in the local dialect have an added advantage.
