Job Description

Role Overview

This field-based role supports the delivery of a livelihoods and resilience programme focused on the "4 Rs" framework—risk reduction, risk transfer, risk retention, and risk diversification—across target communities. Day-to-day, the role involves mobilising households, coordinating local value-chain development, training farmer and savings groups, and ensuring timely reporting and monitoring. The work matters because it helps vulnerable households build economic self-reliance and strengthen local systems that can absorb shocks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the timely rollout of all 4 Rs interventions, including household mobilisation, group formation, and local value-chain activities, in line with approved work plans and budgets.
  • Prepare activity-level budgets, work plans, and procurement requests, and track expenditure to keep budget utilisation within acceptable thresholds.
  • Train and coach households and financial inclusion groups on the 4 Rs, digitisation, Climate Smart Agriculture, entrepreneurship, post-harvest management, and value addition.
  • Work with communities, county government, and other partners to identify viable on-farm and off-farm value chains, and facilitate farmer-producer group formation and capacity building.
  • Design and use capacity-assessment tools for producer groups, identify community champions, and link groups to microfinance institutions and skills-development providers.
  • Support produce aggregation, marketing, and linkages to larger financial products to improve group performance and sustainability.
  • Develop and implement monitoring schedules; collect, clean, and enter performance data into the project's Management Information System; and prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports.
  • Document lessons learned and success stories, facilitate reflection and learning events, and support baseline, end-line, and post-distribution assessments.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, Nutrition, Development Studies, or a related field; a degree is an added advantage.
  • At least two years' experience implementing livelihood, food security, or resilience projects in community settings.
  • Strong facilitation and community-mobilisation skills, with the ability to work with farmers, producer groups, local leaders, and government stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, and familiarity with local dialects and cultural contexts.
  • Proficient in MS Office and email systems such as Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender sensitivity, child and adult safeguarding, and cross-cutting issues such as social inclusion in economic empowerment.
  • Self-motivated team player who can take initiative, lead without close supervision, and maintain performance under pressure in diverse cultural environments.
