Job Description

Role Overview

This role focuses on guiding property and commercial transactions from initial client instruction through to final registration and closure. You will handle due diligence, contract drafting, and stakeholder coordination in a busy Nairobi law practice, ensuring each matter moves forward smoothly and complies with current legislation. Your work directly supports the firm’s reputation for reliable, business-minded legal advice and helps maintain strong relationships with financial institutions, government offices, and real estate professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of conveyancing and commercial transactions, including sale agreements, leases, charges, and security documents.
  • Conduct title searches, land registry investigations, and due diligence reviews to identify risks in property and corporate deals.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, transfer instruments, and other legal documentation, then oversee execution and stamping with relevant authorities.
  • Advise clients on property law, corporate structures, and contractual obligations, offering practical solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with surveyors, valuers, estate agents, and regulatory bodies to ensure seamless transaction processing and timely completion.
  • Support corporate transactions by analysing contractual risks, recommending safeguards, and preparing opinion letters or board resolutions.
  • Maintain organised transaction files, track key deadlines, and provide progress updates to clients and internal teams.
  • Monitor changes in legislation affecting commercial and conveyancing practice, and contribute to internal knowledge sharing or process improvements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: At least two years post-admission experience in a busy law firm, primarily handling conveyancing and commercial matters.
  • Education: Upper Second Class Honours degree in Law (LLB) from a recognised university.
  • Licensing: Valid practising certificate from the Law Society of Kenya or equivalent regulatory body.
  • Skills: Strong legal drafting, analytical, and research capabilities; ability to interpret complex property and corporate documents.
  • Commercial acumen: Solid understanding of business contexts, risk assessment, and negotiation strategies.
  • Communication: Clear written and verbal English; confidence in client-facing interactions and stakeholder coordination.
  • Personal attributes: Self-motivated, detail-oriented, ethical, and able to manage multiple transactions under deadlines.
