Role Overview
This role provides strategic direction and operational oversight for all nursing services, ensuring every unit delivers safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. Day to day, you will lead nursing teams across multiple departments, shape clinical policies, and drive performance against key hospital targets—workforce excellence, patient satisfaction, efficiency, and financial health. Your decisions directly affect patient outcomes and the hospital’s ability to meet regulatory and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement nursing strategies that align with the hospital’s broader goals for quality, safety, and financial sustainability.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary nursing workforce, including recruitment, retention, training, and performance management.
- Oversee nursing operations in critical areas such as ICU, Maternity, and Theatre, ensuring clinical excellence and adherence to protocols.
- Establish and enforce clinical governance frameworks, including compliance with Ministry of Health regulations and Safe Care standards.
- Drive patient satisfaction initiatives by monitoring feedback, improving care processes, and fostering a culture of empathy and accountability.
- Collaborate with other clinical and administrative leaders to optimise resource use, reduce inefficiencies, and maintain budget discipline.
- Lead quality improvement projects, incident reviews, and risk management activities to continuously elevate care delivery.
- Serve as the primary nursing liaison with external regulators, accreditation bodies, and professional nursing organisations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing mandatory; an MBA in Healthcare Management, Strategic Management, or a related leadership field is strongly required.
- Valid Registered Nurse license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Minimum of seven years of professional nursing experience, with at least three years in a senior leadership or management capacity.
- Demonstrated familiarity with Ministry of Health regulations, Safe Care standards, and clinical governance frameworks.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary healthcare teams across diverse clinical settings.
- Direct hands-on or supervisory experience in ICU, Maternity, and Theatre nursing units.
