Role Overview
This position owns the end-to-end performance of a multi-site transport network, from shaping the daily dispatch plan through to confirming that every vehicle, driver and load has moved on time, at the right cost and within road-safety rules. The person in this seat sits between customers, carriers and site teams, so the work blends live exception handling with the slower, more analytical job of redesigning routing and load patterns to lift fleet productivity. Done well, the role protects contractual service levels, keeps transport spend in check and keeps drivers safe on the road.
Key Responsibilities
- Run day-to-day transport activity across the assigned network, reworking plans as volumes, vehicle availability or road conditions shift.
- Build and refine routing, load planning and vehicle allocation so each trip carries the maximum practical payload and empty running stays low.
- Follow shipments and vehicles through transport management systems and tracking tools, stepping in early when a collection or delivery looks at risk.
- Control the dispatch window, confirming that loads leave on schedule and that delivery documents, keys, GPS units, fuel cards and mobile devices are issued and accounted for correctly.
- Investigate service failures and delivery exceptions, then coordinate resolution with customer service and other stakeholders.
- Monitor fleet availability, downtime, fuel consumption and driver productivity, converting that data into concrete improvement actions.
- Hold transport suppliers and contractors to agreed performance standards while pursuing cost-saving opportunities that do not erode service.
- Keep the operation compliant with transport legislation, axle-load limits, road-safety standards and driver licensing, permit and training requirements; support team members through workload balancing, coaching and progress on individual development objectives.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in logistics, supply chain or a closely related discipline.
- Roughly 10 years of experience in logistics, with transport or supply chain industry exposure essential.
- Practical command of fleet utilisation, routing, load planning, vehicle allocation, dispatch and delivery control.
- Hands-on use of transport management systems and tracking tools to maintain real-time visibility of shipments and vehicles.
- Demonstrated work with fuel monitoring, driver productivity measurement and supplier or contractor performance management.
- Working knowledge of structured problem-solving, performance reporting and continuous improvement methods.
- Understanding of transport legislation, road safety regulation and axle-load requirements as they apply to fleet compliance.
- Exposure to customer service and distribution operations, plus the ability to operate effectively across a national business and across diverse cultural and stakeholder environments.
What We Offer
- An international, inclusive and diverse working environment with a strong emphasis on values and team-based leadership.
- An open and engaging company culture.
- Extensive learning and development opportunities.
- Health insurance cover spanning inpatient, outpatient, dental and optical care.
- The tools needed for the assigned tasks and for delivering results.
