Role Overview
As a casual server at our luxury hotel, you'll be brought in during high-volume periods to strengthen both the restaurant floor and banquet service. On any given shift, you might move from taking a la carte orders in the dining room to assisting with a formal event's plated course service. Your consistent, warm hospitality helps create memorable experiences that keep guests returning and uphold the hotel's standard of excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet each guest warmly as they arrive, escort them to their assigned table, and offer menus while quickly gauging their mood and preferred level of interaction.
- Take food and beverage orders with precision, repeat them back when necessary, and communicate clearly with kitchen and bar staff so every plate and drink comes out exactly as requested.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of the menu, including seasonal specials, cooking methods, portion sizes, and common allergens, so you can answer questions and alert the kitchen to any guest dietary restrictions.
- Offer personalized recommendations that genuinely elevate the dining experience, such as suggesting a complementary wine, a chef's tasting item, or a dessert that fits the guest's preferences.
- Keep your section immaculate throughout service by removing used dishes promptly, refreshing water and other beverages, and resetting tables between courses without making guests feel rushed.
- Assist with banquet preparation by setting up tables, chairs, linens, glassware, and decorative elements according to detailed event diagrams, and adapt quickly to last-minute client changes.
- Communicate effectively with fellow servers, chefs, bartenders, and event coordinators to ensure seamless service, and immediately relay any special requests or guest issues so they are resolved without delay.
- Uphold the hotel's grooming standards and treat fine china, glassware, and silverware with care, while complying with all food safety and workplace health regulations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A hospitality degree, diploma, or certificate combined with at least six months of service experience in a restaurant or hotel setting, OR two years of relevant experience if your formal education lies outside hospitality.
- Previous exposure to upscale dining, luxury hotel service, or formal banquet environments is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to provide exceptional guest service with a composed, friendly demeanor and clear professional communication.
- Familiarity with proper table service sequence, fine dining etiquette, and the presentation standards expected in an elegant venue.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as those are the busiest times for both restaurant and banquet operations.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to stay calm and efficient during peak pressure, juggling multiple tables and competing priorities.
- Keen observational skills, such as noticing a repeated guest preference, an empty glass that needs refilling, or a table setting that is slightly out of alignment.
