Job Description

Role Overview

This position is responsible for keeping the organisation’s official map records accurate and legally current. You will update both physical and digital master map files whenever approved land subdivisions or boundary adjustments are made, and you will check draft map outputs against statutory requirements before they are made public. Your attention to detail directly supports reliable land administration and prevents disputes arising from outdated or incorrectly drawn maps.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process approved land subdivision and boundary alteration data to update physical master map files with precision.
  • Apply the same amendments to digital master map records, ensuring all related spatial databases remain consistent.
  • Examine draft map outputs carefully to confirm they meet statutory standards for layout, scale, annotation, and completeness.
  • Maintain clear documentation of map updates, including the source of each change, the date, and the relevant reference details.
  • Flag any unresolved discrepancies or incomplete boundary information to senior mapping staff for further investigation.
  • Organise and preserve historical map records so past versions can be retrieved when needed for audits or legal queries.
  • Support quality checks on final map products issued to external parties and government agencies.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A diploma in cartography, geomatics, or an equivalent qualification recognised by a relevant local institution.
  • A certificate in computer application skills, demonstrating practical knowledge of digital file management and standard office productivity tools.
  • Familiarity with the principles of map production, coordinate systems, and land boundary representation.
  • Ability to read and interpret survey plans and land registration documents accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to checking and updating records.
  • Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
