Role Overview
This position sits at the heart of a microfinance institution's lending operations, combining business development with hands-on credit management. You will spend your days identifying and bringing in new borrowers, while also vetting their financial situations, structuring loans, and making sure repayments stay on track. Success in this role means meeting weekly lending targets without compromising the quality of the loan book, and you will work closely with internal teams, vendors, and external partners to keep the lending pipeline healthy and profitable.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive a steady flow of new loan applications by actively prospecting for clients and uncovering fresh business opportunities in the community and among institutional partners.
- Build and nurture lasting relationships with business partners, vendors, and borrowers, acting as a trusted point of contact who keeps communication open and professional.
- Assess every loan request in depth: reviewing the applicant's financial history, credit standing, and any relevant collateral or property details before making a sound approval decision.
- Set up and maintain accurate credit and loan files, updating them throughout the life of each facility to reflect payments, changes in circumstances, and any follow-up actions.
- Create and execute practical marketing plans that raise awareness of the institution's products and bring in qualified leads on a consistent basis.
- Monitor repayment behaviour, promptly chase overdue accounts, and take the necessary steps to recover outstanding amounts while preserving client goodwill where possible.
- Prepare financial projections and track the performance of the loan portfolio to support sustainable growth and profitability.
- Keep a close watch on microfinance and economic trends, translating observations into recommendations that help the institution adapt its strategies and product offerings.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A diploma in a business-related discipline such as finance, commerce, marketing, or a similar field.
- Demonstrated talent for negotiating terms and influences outcomes in a way that serves both the client and the institution fairly.
- A high level of personal integrity, plus the dependability to follow through on commitments and handle sensitive information with complete confidentiality.
- Sufficient tact and discretion to manage delicate conversations around money, creditworthiness, and repayment difficulties with poise.
- Proven ability to develop productive working relationships across diverse teams, departments, and external stakeholders.
- Strong presentation and verbal communication skills, with a natural ability to make complex financial matters clear, engaging, and genuinely easy to understand.
- Comfort working in a target-driven environment where weekly volume and value goals are central to daily activity.
