Role Overview
This position owns the end-to-end finance and accounting function of a flower export business, keeping money moving smoothly from buyer invoice through to grower and supplier settlement. Day to day, that means running the ledgers, chasing receivables, forecasting cash, reconciling freight and clearing charges, and making sure every statutory return reaches KRA on time. Because exports run on tight margins and even tighter timing, the accuracy and pace of this work directly determines whether shipments, payroll, and supplier relationships stay on track.
The role sits at the centre of the operation, working alongside Farm, Operations, Procurement, and Management teams so that financial decisions are grounded in real numbers rather than guesswork.
Key Responsibilities
- Run the complete accounting cycle — Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, bank and ledger reconciliations — and keep financial records accurate, current, and audit-ready.
- Raise invoices for export customers and manage collections across growers and international buyers, tracking ageing balances and following up on overdue amounts.
- Administer supplier accounts from start to finish: scheduling payments, reconciling statements, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining the supporting documentation behind each transaction.
- Monitor daily cash positions and build rolling cash flow forecasts so that operational commitments are always funded.
- Reconcile air freight, clearing, forwarding, and other logistics costs tied to exports, and highlight where spend can be trimmed or tightened.
- Process payroll, including payments for casual and seasonal employees, ensuring accuracy and timely disbursement.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, budgets, and variance analysis for management review.
- Handle KRA compliance across VAT, withholding tax, PAYE, and other statutory obligations, keep export transaction records in line with tax and financial regulations, and support both internal and external audits by having documentation ready when requested.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a closely related discipline.
- CPA (K) qualification is mandatory.
- At least 4 years of finance and accounting experience, ideally gained in flower export, floriculture, air cargo, or export trading.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with export invoicing, receivables, payables, cash flow management, and general ledger work.
- Solid working knowledge of KRA taxation and statutory compliance requirements.
- Track record of managing supplier accounts alongside international client accounts.
- Comfortable working in accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, or an equivalent platform.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with strong analytical and reporting capability.
Core competencies
- Strong financial management and accounting judgement.
- High attention to detail and accuracy under pressure.
- Clear grasp of export finance and the compliance environment around it.
- Analytical, problem-solving mindset with a commercial eye.
- Integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Strong organisational and stakeholder management skills.
- Able to work independently and deliver against strict deadlines.
- Proactive approach to financial control and cost management.
