Role Overview
You will take full ownership of a branch's performance, acting as the link between the bank's retail strategy and its execution at the local level. Day to day, you will lead the sales agenda, manage operational workflows, and develop a high-performing team while ensuring every customer interaction meets the bank's service and brand standards. This role matters because branch profitability, client retention, and regulatory compliance all depend on your ability to set direction, motivate staff, and keep operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and implement a tailored branch business plan that targets portfolio growth, cost control, and net interest income, using local market data and competitor analysis to guide decisions.
- Drive business development across all product lines, focusing on deposit mobilisation, lending growth, client acquisition, and cross-selling to deepen existing relationships.
- Manage branch operations end to end, including cash levels, security procedures, opening and closing routines, and the availability of physical infrastructure and supplies.
- Supervise, coach, and motivate retail staff by setting individual performance targets, conducting appraisals, identifying training needs, and ensuring adequate staffing throughout the day.
- Maintain strict adherence to CBK regulations, the bank's credit policy, AML/KYC rules, and environmental and social management guidelines, while resolving any audit findings promptly.
- Champion customer experience by tracking satisfaction and effort metrics, reducing complaints, handling escalations, and using feedback to refine branch service standards.
- Strengthen the branch's local brand presence by supporting product launches, ensuring merchandising compliance, and building relationships with business influencers and key clients.
- Collaborate with product specialists and business heads to develop lending quality controls, monitor portfolio health, and adjust strategies in response to changing customer needs.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or another relevant business discipline; a master's degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in a banking environment, with solid exposure to branch operations, credit management, and business development.
- At least 4 years of that experience must be in a management or supervisory role.
- A Diploma in Banking from AKIB is considered a plus.
- Sound knowledge of retail and SME banking products, services, and processes, including customer service delivery in a branch setting.
- Thorough understanding of the CBK regulatory framework and the specific regulations affecting corporate and retail customers.
- Strong leadership, marketing, sales, and people management skills, with a proven ability to set objectives and develop talent.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills, alongside solid planning, analytical, and decision-making capabilities.
