Role Overview
This position sits at the bench and in the bay, taking damaged vehicle bodies from assessment through to a finished, road-ready repair. Day to day you will be reshaping panels, preparing surfaces, and applying paint so that every unit leaving the workshop meets the standard our customers and fleet operators expect. Because the vehicles in our care include hard-working safari Land Cruisers and Alphard models, your craftsmanship directly protects both the safety and the resale value of assets that are relied on every single day.
Key Responsibilities
- Straighten, hammer, fill, and reshape damaged body panels and structural sections, restoring them to correct alignment and factory-appropriate finish.
- Carry out damage assessments on incoming vehicles, identify the full extent of impact damage, and recommend the most cost-effective repair route.
- Prepare surfaces and apply primer, base coat, and top coat, colour-matching paint to existing finishes so repairs blend invisibly.
- Perform routine checks on bodywork and paint condition during longer jobs, flagging any additional issues discovered as work progresses.
- Document repair progress accurately, recording work completed, materials used, and time spent on each job.
- Keep tools, spray equipment, and the work area clean, serviceable, and in safe working order at all times.
- Follow workshop safety procedures, including correct handling of paints, thinners, and other hazardous materials, and use personal protective equipment properly.
- Coordinate with other workshop staff to sequence jobs efficiently and keep promised completion dates on track.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in panel beating within a professional workshop environment.
- Formal training in body works — a Trade Test Grade I, diploma, or higher qualification.
- Practical working knowledge of Toyota Land Cruisers, particularly safari-specification models, and of the Toyota Alphard; familiarity with these vehicles' body structures and finishes is essential.
- Competence in both panel beating and spray painting, with the ability to complete a repair through to final finish.
- Strong diagnostic eye for damage assessment and the judgment to select the right repair method.
- Good communication skills for reporting job status and discussing repair options with colleagues and supervisors.
- A flexible attitude toward shifting priorities and job schedules, plus fast, practical problem-solving when an unexpected repair challenge appears.
