Role Overview
This position performs hands-on welding and fabrication work to join metal components into strong, dimensionally accurate assemblies. The welder reads drawings, prepares joints and fixtures, selects appropriate welding processes, and checks completed work so that structural or automotive products meet design and quality expectations. The role is critical because weld integrity affects product safety, durability, and production flow.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute MIG, TIG, shielded metal arc, and resistance spot welding tasks on structural or automotive parts, choosing the correct process and settings for the material and thickness.
- Review assembly drawings, fabrication plans, and technical specifications to confirm dimensions, weld locations, and build sequence before work begins.
- Inspect and prepare joints by cleaning, aligning, fitting, and tacking components; report poor fit-up, incorrect preparation, or material issues to the supervisor.
- Build, set up, and adjust jigs and welding fixtures to support repeatable production and accurate part positioning.
- Operate welding equipment safely, monitor welds for defects such as porosity, undercut, cracks, or incomplete fusion, and correct or rework unacceptable welds.
- Manage consumables, tools, and equipment responsibly, including routine checks and maintenance to keep machines in safe working condition.
- Follow health, safety, and environmental rules, use required protective equipment, participate in safety training, and apply continuous improvement practices such as Kaizen.
- Complete work in line with the company's quality procedures and work instructions, and carry out other related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Completed secondary education.
- Diploma or certificate in welding or a related field.
- At least 2 years of hands-on welding and fabrication experience in structural work or the automotive sector.
- Practical ability with MIG, TIG, SMAW, and resistance spot welding, including setup and adjustment of welding equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, weld symbols, and assembly or fabrication documents.
- Knowledge of weld preparation, fitting techniques, joint design, and common weld defect causes and prevention.
- Understanding of welding safety practices, PPE use, and safe handling of tools, gases, and consumables.
- Experience preparing or using jigs and fixtures to hold parts during production.
- Attention to detail, commitment to quality, and willingness to follow established procedures and improvement initiatives.
