Job Description

Role Overview

This biomedical engineering position keeps clinical equipment safe, accurate, and available for everyday patient care. The engineer works across hands-on repair, preventive maintenance, device customization, and clinical collaboration, helping healthcare teams rely on technology without avoidable downtime or safety concerns. The role also supports smarter decisions about new equipment and keeps compliance, inventory, and service documentation in dependable order.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and validate medical devices and equipment, applying safety, performance, and risk-control principles from concept through testing.
  • Adapt and upgrade existing clinical equipment so it better fits user needs, improves reliability, or extends useful service life.
  • Install, calibrate, inspect, and repair biomedical equipment, documenting results and restoring devices to safe operating condition.
  • Train clinicians, nurses, and technical staff on correct device operation, routine checks, and first-line troubleshooting.
  • Research, diagnose, and resolve equipment faults, near misses, or recurring performance issues with clinical teams and recommend engineering fixes.
  • Assess emerging healthcare technologies and advise on whether they can be integrated safely and practically into current facilities.
  • Maintain quality assurance and compliance records, including maintenance schedules, service histories, and equipment inventories.
  • Work alongside physicians, nurses, technicians, and other departments to improve equipment availability, utilization, and patient care.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Membership with AMEK – Association of Medical Engineers.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in biomedical engineering, clinical engineering, or a comparable medical equipment environment.
  • Practical knowledge of medical device safety standards, calibration methods, preventive maintenance, and regulatory compliance expectations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software-related equipment issues and work safely around clinical environments.
  • Strong documentation habits for service logs, inventory, maintenance planning, and quality assurance records.
  • Clear communication skills for training healthcare personnel and collaborating with interdisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Commitment to staying current with advances in biomedical engineering and healthcare technology.
