Job Description

Role Overview

Working as a bio-medical engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that medical equipment across the facility remains safe, functional, and compliant with relevant standards. Your day-to-day work will involve diagnosing faults, performing preventive maintenance, and collaborating with clinical staff to minimize equipment downtime while supporting patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance inspections on a wide range of medical devices, including patient monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and diagnostic imaging systems.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, perform root-cause analysis, and carry out repairs to restore functionality within service-level targets.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service histories, and inventory records for all bio-medical equipment using the organisation's asset management system.
  • Verify that medical devices meet electrical safety and performance standards before returning them to clinical use.
  • Liaise with external vendors and manufacturers to arrange warranty repairs, technical support, and spare parts procurement.
  • Provide practical guidance and training to clinical staff on the safe and correct use of medical equipment.
  • Participate in equipment installation, commissioning, and decommissioning projects, ensuring proper documentation and user handover.
  • Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to maintenance schedules or equipment replacement plans.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering or a directly related engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in bio-medical equipment maintenance, repair, and safety management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage a dynamic workload with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting effectively with clinicians, vendors, and other departments.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering and healthcare team.
