In 1963 the company introduced hybrid seed maize production following the release of the first hybrids by the government Research centre in Kitale. Seed wheat was added to the seed program in 1971 to provide certified seed to farmers who previously depended on low quality farm saved seeds. Later in 1979 the company acquired Simpson and White law, a company trading in horticultural seeds, and introduced the brand name "Simlaw Seeds”, which has since distinguished itself as a leading brand in the market. In 2002 Simlaw Seeds was registered as a limited liability company and a subsidiary of Kenya Seed Company Ltd. Its core business is selling and marketing of high quality horticultural seeds, pesticides and fertilizers in the East African region. In the same year Kenya seed incorporated Kibo and Mt. Elgon seed Companies in Tanzania and Uganda respectively as an expansion strategy into the Eastern Africa market. Job Description

Role Overview

Kenya Seed Company is opening its doors to university and college students who need to complete a supervised industrial attachment as part of their degree or diploma programmes. As an equal opportunity employer, the company sees this placement as a way to give young talent practical exposure to the seed industry while strengthening its ties with institutions of higher learning. Over the course of the attachment, participants will work alongside experienced professionals, observing real operations and contributing to day-to-day tasks across relevant departments. The goal is to make academic knowledge more meaningful by connecting it with the demands and realities of the workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support departmental teams by carrying out assigned tasks under the supervision of experienced staff members.
  • Assist agronomists and field officers with seed crop inspections, field trials, and data recording during different growth stages.
  • Participate in seed sampling, quality checks, and laboratory testing activities alongside the quality assurance team.
  • Help compile, organise, and maintain records related to seed production, processing, or warehousing.
  • Observe and learn from plant and equipment operations in seed processing and packaging units.
  • Contribute to preparing internal reports, presentations, or summaries that document activities and findings during the placement.
  • Attend orientation sessions and departmental briefings to understand safety protocols, quality standards, and operational procedures.
  • Engage in continuous learning by asking questions, seeking feedback, and reflecting on ways classroom theory applies to the company's work.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a degree or diploma in agriculture, seed science, agronomy, agribusiness, plant breeding, crop production, or another field relevant to the seed industry.
  • Must be formally required by the academic institution to complete an industrial attachment as part of the programme of study.
  • Should have a valid student introduction letter or recommendation from the institution.
  • Must be available for the full period required by the university or college, typically lasting between eight weeks and several months.
  • Demonstrates willingness to learn, take direction, and work cooperatively in a structured work environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to document observations clearly and accurately.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including word processing and data entry, is an added advantage.
