In four years we've sold 1.6 million solar lights to off-grid families in South Asia and Africa— all paid for up-front, in cash— the latter 1 million customers acquired over the past year. Our products were recognized recently as 'the best solar lamp' in the Economist. Uniquely, we sell our life-changing Sun King solar home lights to off-grid families in India and Africa through a massive direct sales force of trusted, village-level sales agents that penetrate deeply into rural markets to promote our products home to home and build trust in our brand at a micro level. Today 5,000 active Saathis bring clean, safe light to 40,000 new off-grid homes each month. We're now expanding our distribution network from three states to the whole of rural India and East Africa, an under-penetrated market of half a billion emerging consumers. And we are releasing more trustworthy, aspirational products to keep our network busy. Specialties Rural marketing, Solar lighting, India, Africa View more View less

Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits at the center of marketing for EasyCook, Sun King's pay-as-you-go LPG cooking gas product, with a focus on driving both brand growth and direct sales outcomes across the Kenyan hub network. You will spend your time translating customer insights into practical marketing campaigns, working shoulder-to-shoulder with commercial and field teams to open new markets and deepen usage among existing households. Reporting to the Head of Marketing for Kenya, you will own the full marketing plan for EasyCook and be accountable for connecting the product to more families while making sure current customers see real value from every refill.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build a clear customer segmentation framework and turn it into marketing plans that move customers from first purchase to habitual refill.
  • Own the EasyCook marketing roadmap, ensuring every campaign is tied to measurable usage growth and engagement across the hub network.
  • Create, launch, and refine a loyalty and retention programme that rewards repeat purchases and builds long-term customer commitment.
  • Coordinate local branding, activation, and promotional materials for new EasyCook hub openings, working with field teams to ensure every launch lands with impact.
  • Develop tailored marketing initiatives aimed at institutional and business customers, helping EasyCook expand beyond household use.
  • Prepare detailed marketing execution plans and campaign briefs for internal stakeholders, with a strong, defensible business case for every shilling spent.
  • Design and run field incentive programmes that keep agents and hub staff motivated and aligned with marketing goals.
  • Brief and manage external agencies and vendors covering media, events, and in-trade visibility materials, then track performance and report results across the network.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Three to five years of experience in brand management, category management, or trade marketing, ideally within FMCG, telecom, financial services, or another subscription-based or pay-as-you-go consumer business.
  • A proven track record marketing cooking solutions or a comparable mass-market consumer product, with clear commercial results tied to past campaigns.
  • Strong analytical skills and a data-first mindset, comfortable setting baselines, measuring interventions, and reporting outcomes rather than running activity for its own sake.
  • Demonstrated experience designing or managing a loyalty, rewards, or incentive programme in a consumer-facing role.
  • Ability to work confidently with revenue and usage metrics such as ARPU, and to construct a clear return-on-investment case for proposed marketing spend.
  • Experience coordinating field-facing programmes, agent networks, or last-mile distribution in an emerging market context.
  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or a related field.

What We Offer

  • Room to grow professionally in a fast-moving industry with significant social impact across emerging markets.
  • A collaborative, open-minded culture where colleagues are motivated by innovation and making a tangible difference for people and the planet.
  • A genuinely multicultural work environment, with opportunities to learn from people across different countries, nationalities, and backgrounds.
  • Access to structured learning and development programmes through Sun Centre for Leadership, designed to strengthen your leadership, management, and professional skills.
