Role Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical, transaction-minded Associate Advocate to anchor the legal execution and client file architecture within our busy Corporate, Commercial & Conveyancing Department. Your primary focus is to support senior partners in structuring commercial agreements, executing property transfers, and conducting exhaustive regulatory due diligence for corporate entities. This position bridges meticulous legal drafting with active client account navigation; you will guide transactions from early title tracking and corporate records auditing through to registration completions and the drafting of complex commercial legal opinions. The role demands an ambitious legal professional with a strong academic foundation who demonstrates complete ownership over deadlines and maintains top-tier emotional intelligence inside a high-performance firm environment.
Areas of Accountability
Commercial Architecture & Agreement Drafting
- Structure, draft, and review foundational commercial documents, including shareholder compacts, asset purchase contracts, joint venture models, and non-disclosure arrangements.
- Conduct extensive legal research regarding evolving corporate regulations, financial statutes, and precedent cases to build ironclad advisory briefs.
- Support enterprise due diligence investigations, analyzing target corporate structures, operating licenses, and asset titles during mergers or investment cycles.
- Formulate clear, actionable risk summaries and legal briefs to help corporate boards successfully navigate local statutory obligations.
Conveyancing Execution & Land Registration
- Manage land transaction pipelines, executing thorough searches at digital land registries to confirm clean root of title histories.
- Draft and process transfers, standard charges, long-term leases, discharge of charges, and sectional title document allocations.
- Track payment clearances regarding land rates, rent approvals, and capital gains taxes to clear roadblocks prior to final file lodgment.
- Secure precise registration paths at national and county land registries, maintaining accurate, real-time update chains for buying or lending clients.
Case Records Integrity & Account Management
- Maintain pristine file storage, tracking all ongoing client timelines, document versions, and active transaction folders systematically.
- Act as a reliable technical point of contact for client queries, updating partners and business representatives on deal progress transparently.
- Coordinate cross-departmental tasks with property valuers, bank security agents, and registry officials to maintain smooth file progressions.
- Troubleshoot registration bottlenecks or filing defects decisively to guard clients against transaction delays.
Regulatory Alignment & Corporate Outreach
- Monitor local legislative shifts and public registry directives, issuing swift inside briefs on structural changes that impact trade or land rules.
- Attend to official document submissions at corporate registries, securing tax compliance files and specialized operational certificates.
- Participate actively in the firm's strategic networking groups, contributing to client acquisition plans and panel pitch structures.
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum Entry Criteria
- Professional Admission: Duly admitted Advocate of the High Court of Kenya holding a current, unblemished practising certificate.
- Post-Admission Track: 6 to 24 months of solid Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) specializing directly in corporate, commercial, and conveyancing fields.
- Firm Background: Mandatory experience working within a fast-paced, reputable commercial law firm setup.
- Academic Threshold: Exemplary secondary school results, maintaining a minimum KCSE grade of B+ or its verified international equivalent.
- Technical Software: Familiarity with modern digital land tracking platforms, court registration systems, and common office database tools.
