Role Overview
This position sits within the Risk and Compliance function supporting Airtel Money, where you will help translate the organisation's risk and compliance framework into day-to-day practice across a fast-moving mobile money business. Working under the Risk and Compliance Manager, you will examine how existing and proposed products, services and partnerships expose the business to financial crime and regulatory risk, then help design the controls that keep those exposures in check. Your work directly protects revenue and customer trust by catching suspicious activity early, keeping reporting to regulators and leadership accurate, and making sure audit findings are closed rather than carried.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and assess risks tied to Airtel Money's present operations and planned initiatives, covering new and existing products, services and third-party business relationships.
- Compile regulatory compliance submissions alongside Board and senior management reporting packs, ensuring figures and narratives are accurate and delivered on schedule.
- Carry out customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence on customers, agents, partners and merchants, and maintain ongoing scrutiny of those classified as higher risk.
- Investigate flagged high-risk accounts in depth and draft Suspicious Activity Reports for escalation.
- Examine suspicious transactions, document findings and prepare Suspicious Transaction Reports for the Money Laundering Reporting Officer to review and action.
- Run continuous transaction monitoring to surface activity that requires escalation, further investigation or formal reporting.
- Review, test and tune the thresholds configured in automated monitoring systems so alerts are accurate and genuine red flags are not buried in noise.
- Support internal and external audits by supplying requested evidence and tracking statutory and internal audit issues through to closure.
- Write SQL queries to pull and analyse transactional and related data in support of risk reviews, management information and regulatory reporting.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Economics, Risk, Law or a comparable discipline.
- Between 2 and 5 years of relevant experience gained in a fintech or financial services setting.
- An AML/CFT qualification would strengthen your application.
- Working proficiency in SQL and Excel, with exposure to Python.
- Solid grounding in AML regulation, KYC obligations and financial crime prevention frameworks.
- Practical familiarity with AML monitoring systems, transaction monitoring tools and case management platforms.
- Sharp analytical and investigative ability, with a meticulous eye for detail.
- Strong data analytics capability and a working understanding of how audit processes operate.
- Commercial awareness paired with confident communication, presentation and report-writing skills.
- Able to deliver accurately and compliantly under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
