Job Description

Role Overview

This role is about helping a delivery team become consistently reliable and continuously improving. You will coach the team in Lean, Agile, and Kanban practices, with a strong emphasis on visualising work, limiting work in progress, and making delivery flow smoother. Beyond day-to-day facilitation, you will work closely with product owners and programme-level coaches to remove systemic blockers, create healthy team dynamics, and ensure the team’s priorities stay aligned with wider organisational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coach the team on Lean-Agile principles, Kanban methods, and flow-based delivery, helping them take ownership of their processes and outcomes.
  • Guide the team in designing and evolving their Kanban board: clarifying workflow stages, setting WIP limits, and making policies and dependencies visible.
  • Facilitate regular team ceremonies such as daily synchronisation, replenishment planning, retrospectives, and review sessions, while also supporting larger programme-level events.
  • Identify bottlenecks, recurring delays, and sources of waste in the delivery pipeline, then work with the team to run targeted improvement experiments.
  • Use flow metrics like cycle time, throughput, and ageing work to support evidence-based decisions and transparent progress reporting.
  • Partner with Product Owners on backlog intake, prioritisation, and work replenishment so that planned and unplanned demands are balanced effectively.
  • Build strong collaboration across the team and with external stakeholders, proactively managing dependencies and escalating structural impediments when needed.
  • Promote a safe, candid environment where team members feel comfortable raising concerns, giving feedback, and experimenting with new ways of working.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • At least four years in a Team Coach, Scrum Master, or equivalent Agile facilitation role, with hands-on experience supporting cross-functional delivery teams.
  • Proven practical experience applying Kanban practices, including work visualisation, WIP management, and explicit process policies, in a software or technology context.
  • Solid understanding of Lean thinking, systems thinking, and the principles behind Agile delivery methods.
  • Experience working within a scaled agile environment, such as SAFe, and familiarity with programme-level ceremonies like PI planning and system demos.
  • Track record of using delivery data and flow analytics to drive continuous improvement and inform stakeholder conversations.
  • Strong facilitation and mentoring skills, with the ability to support healthy conflict resolution and inclusive decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to influence and gain buy-in without relying on formal authority.
  • Comfortable working with distributed and cross-cultural teams, and experienced with common collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, and virtual whiteboards.
  • Certifications such as SAFe Scrum Master, Kanban Management Professional, or Professional Scrum with Kanban are an advantage.
