Job Title: Early Childhood Development (ECD) Teacher
Reports to: Head Teacher / Centre Manager
Job Purpose: To provide quality early childhood education through play-based learning, ensure learner safety, and support holistic development in accordance with the national curriculum and TSC standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver effective class teaching tailored to the developmental needs of young learners.
- Act as a positive role model, providing guidance, counseling, mentoring, and motivation to learners.
- Prepare timely and accurate reports on learner progress, attendance, and overall development.
- Ensure the safety and security of all learners within the learning environment at all times.
- Identify, initiate, develop, and facilitate play-based learning activities that encourage learners to enjoy living and learning through play.
- Develop relevant play and learning materials appropriate for all learners' abilities and interests.
- Prepare and develop schemes of work, lesson plans, daily programme of activities, assessments, and evaluations of learners' progress, while maintaining complete and professional records.
Requirements for Appointment
For direct appointment to this grade, a candidate must possess:
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) minimum grade C (Plain) or its equivalent; OR
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) minimum grade D+ (Plus) or its approved equivalent, plus a Certificate in Early Childhood Development and Education offered by KNEC/Ministry of Education or its approved equivalent.
- Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Education offered by KNEC/Ministry of Education or its approved equivalent.
- Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- A certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.
- Certificate of Good Conduct from the National Police Service (valid within the last one year).
- Valid medical report from a registered government health facility.
