Description:

MediaNews Group is hiring a Billing Specialist I to support circulation billing operations across its newspaper properties in Willoughby, Ohio. This role is responsible for managing billing processes related to home delivery, single-copy sales, commercial distribution, and carrier payment operations.

The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial processing, resolving billing discrepancies, and supporting communication between circulation operations and accounting teams. This position requires strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to work effectively in a structured billing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Generate billing files for assigned properties with accurate data validation

• Enter returns and verify financial accuracy of billing records

• Process adjustments for carrier accounts and single-copy transactions

• Ensure carrier pay files are submitted to Accounts Payable on time

• Manage subscriber refunds and billing corrections

• Work with circulation and general ledger teams to resolve discrepancies

• Collaborate with billing team members through shared communication channels

• Maintain accurate interpretation of financial documents and company policies

• Improve internal billing procedures where possible

• Communicate professionally with internal teams and external stakeholders

Requirements:

• Knowledge of basic accounting and billing processes

• Strong written communication skills for professional correspondence

• Good verbal communication and active listening abilities

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas

• Ability to analyze and resolve billing discrepancies

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Ability to work in a structured operational environment

• Associate’s degree preferred but not required

• 1–3 years of billing or accounting-related experience preferred

• Strong knowledge of:
