Position Title: Electrical Technician – Manufacturing Industry
Direct Line Reporting: Maintenance Engineer
Industry Sector: Manufacturing
Gross Salary Structure: Kshs. 35,000 - 45,000
Location: Ruiru
Strategic Objective
We are seeking a highly analytical, technically astute Electrical Technician to anchor our plant maintenance operations and automation reliability. Your primary focus will be to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing throughput by executing rigorous preventive servicing, predictive system checks, and high-speed emergency repair interventions across all production lines. This position bridges heavy industrial power distribution with delicate automation control loops; you will guide factory systems from routine panel wiring and component diagnostics through to complex PLC fault isolation. The role calls for a proactive, safety-conscious technician who thrives in high-volume processing environments and can seamlessly minimize machinery downtime.
Scope of Responsibilities
Fault Diagnosis & Machine Diagnostics
-
Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective breakdown maintenance schedules on all localized manufacturing equipment and plant utility setups.
-
Diagnose, isolate, and repair complex electrical faults on industrial motors, servo drives, control circuits, sensors, relays, and contactor blocks.
-
Respond with ultimate speed to sudden machine breakdowns on the factory floor, deploying effective engineering fixes to eliminate production bottlenecks.
-
Conduct systematic insulation testing, loop checks, and routine thermal imaging inspections on power distribution lines to catch vulnerabilities early.
Industrial Automation & Process Control
-
Troubleshoot, map, and maintain programmable logic controller (PLC) configurations and integrated automated packaging hardware.
-
Calibrate, audit, and regulate Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), field instrumentation devices, and closed-loop process monitors.
-
Implement minor logic program adjustments and field parameter modifications under the direct oversight of senior automation engineers.
-
Assist with electrical validation, multi-system synchronization, and startup testing protocols for newly commissioned asset lines.
Capital Projects & Structural Installations
-
Install, terminate, and wire up industrial electrical panels, plant lighting systems, machinery extensions, and heavy power distribution links.
-
Support engineering teams with plant layout expansions, capacity upgrades, and infrastructure modernizations.
-
Interpret architectural schematics, blueprinted circuit maps, and technical wiring diagrams to carry out clean cable routing, trunking, and terminal crimping.
-
Enforce total compliance with national regulatory codes, internal standard operating procedures, and strict engineering design specifications.
Operational Safety, Inventory & Data Logging
-
Maintain unyielding alignment with occupational health codes, including mandatory Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols and high-voltage safety zones.
-
Document precise equipment history records, logging parts used, breakdown root causes, and completed work orders within the maintenance ledger.
-
Monitor field component consumption rates, auditing spare parts stores, and recommending timely restocking levels for critical components.
-
Partner with production supervisors to train machine operators on safe asset handling, pre-start checks, and basic initial fault observations.
Qualifications & Prerequisites
Minimum Requirements
-
Education: Diploma or Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a closely related engineering discipline.
-
Experience Tier: Minimum of 3–5 years of active, hands-on field experience within a heavy manufacturing plant, steel mill, FMCG packaging facility, or continuous processing factory.
-
Automation Mastery: Practical working capability with PLCs, industrial VFDs, three-phase motor control networks, and automated feedback sensors.
-
Schematic Literacy: Advanced ability to read, interpret, and trace complex industrial electrical blueprints, ladder logic, and technical device manuals.
Professional Capabilities
-
Analytical Diagnostics: Elite logical reasoning with a systematic approach to tracing intermittent power faults and control board failures.
-
Safety Stewardship: Deep appreciation for industrial safety metrics, zero-harm environments, and disciplined tool management.
-
Operational Resilience: Composed and focused under breakdown pressure, capable of managing simultaneous machinery repair timelines safely.
What We Offer
-
Advanced Skill Growth: Solve diverse automation and electrical challenges that sharpen your multi-vendor PLC and processing plant expertise.
-
High-Impact Exposure: Play a defining role in maintaining production efficiency within a rapidly expanding manufacturing hub.
-
Collaborative Network: Work alongside veteran manufacturing specialists, process engineers, and global equipment vendors.
