Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to manage and execute construction projects in Ruiru from conceptual design through to commissioning and handover. You will prepare detailed structural and civil designs, perform site assessments, supervise contractors, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with Kenyan building codes and HSE standards. The role requires collaboration with architects, surveyors, government authorities, and project stakeholders while mentoring junior engineers and maintaining thorough project documentation. The ideal candidate is experienced, technically proficient, and capable of managing multiple complex projects efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Design & Planning
Develop detailed structural and civil designs using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and STAAD Pro
Conduct site surveys, soil investigations, feasibility studies, and topographical assessments
Prepare and review Bills of Quantities, cost estimates, and project budgets
Site & Contractor Management
Oversee day-to-day site operations, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards
Monitor contractor performance and certify completed works for payment
Conduct regular site inspections and quality audits
Compliance & Safety
Enforce HSE standards and ensure adherence to statutory requirements
Ensure compliance with Kenyan building codes, zoning regulations, and project specifications
Coordination & Reporting
Liaise with architects, surveyors, contractors, and authorities for smooth project execution
Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and project documentation for management and clients
Procurement & Materials Management
Manage procurement processes including material specifications, supplier selection, and quality verification
Review and approve engineering designs, shop drawings, and method statements
Mentorship & Team Leadership
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and site supervisors
Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of all project activities
Key Requirements:
Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution
Registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK)
Minimum 8 years’ experience in civil engineering project management
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and STAAD Pro
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations
Excellent project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
