Job Description

The Events Intern will support the planning and delivery of the Inclusive Africa Conference 2026 by assisting with speaker, partner, youth and participant coordination, agenda development, logistics, event flow, communications, sponsorship outreach, and attendee management. The role offers hands-on experience in event execution, stakeholder engagement, accessibility, and program design, making it ideal for someone organized, proactive, and passionate about social impact. If you enjoy connecting people, managing details, and contributing to meaningful, inclusive experiences, this is an opportunity to be part of a team shaping Africa’s digital inclusion future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating event logistics including travel, accommodation, venues, accessibility arrangements, and general delegate support.
  • Support session and agenda planning—liaising with speakers, managing briefing materials, and ensuring smooth event flow and timekeeping.
  • Manage attendee processes including registration, ticketing, check-ins (virtual and in-person), and basic troubleshooting.
  • Support outreach and communication with speakers, moderators, exhibitors, innovators, partners, and attendees.
  • Assist with exhibitor and innovator onboarding, booth allocation, showcase support, and accessibility facilitation.
  • Contribute to marketing efforts by driving registrations and ticket sales through lead generation, outreach, and youth-focused engagement campaigns.
  • Support youth inclusion by identifying youth networks/leaders, integrating youth perspectives into sessions, and documenting participation impact.
  • Conduct data sourcing and maintain organized databases for attendees, speakers, partners, sponsors, exhibitors, and outreach leads.
  • Assist in implementing accessibility features such as captioning, sign language interpretation coordination, and tracking accessibility needs.
  • Support post-event evaluation through feedback collection, insights development, KPI tracking, reporting, and cross-team coordination.

Learning & Professional Development Opportunity

During the internship, the candidate will gain:

  • Hands-on experience in event planning, partnerships, youth engagement, and digital accessibility.
  • Experience in continental conference operations, AT innovation ecosystems, and disability inclusion frameworks.
  • Mentorship and guidance from senior event, communication, and program staff.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Prior experience or volunteer involvement in events (conferences, community events, exhibitions, school projects, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking ability, with keen attention to detail and time management.
  • Confident communicator with good writing and people engagement skills, including outreach or speaker/attendee coordination.
  • Comfortable supporting agenda development, session flow, and logistics alongside the events team.
  • Digital proficiency — ability to work with spreadsheets, Google Workspace/Microsoft Office, and email tools.
  • Interest in accessibility and willingness to apply inclusive practices for diverse participants.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, including flexible hours during peak event phases.
