Samsung is rolling out a major convenience for Galaxy users: the Digital Home Key, a feature that lets your phone act as your house key. With this new tool, unlocking your door can be as simple as a tap or even just approaching it. Designed to live inside Samsung Wallet, the feature is powered by the new Aliro smart home standard, supporting both NFC and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology.
This update promises to simplify access to your home while reducing the need for physical keys. Galaxy users can now experience a seamless entry that combines security with modern convenience.
The Digital Home Key uses the Aliro standard, which was officially launched in February 2026. It primarily relies on near-field communication (NFC) for quick tap-to-unlock functionality. For a hands-free experience, ultra-wideband (UWB) technology allows doors to unlock automatically as you approach, without even taking your phone out of your pocket.
Setting up the feature requires a compatible smart lock and a Samsung phone that supports both NFC and UWB. Devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy S22 Ultra, and newer models are ready to take advantage of these capabilities.
Currently, not many locks support the Aliro standard. However, Aqara’s U400 smart lock is “Aliro-ready,” making it one of the first to fully integrate with Samsung’s Digital Home Key. This lock already works with Apple Home Key, so users familiar with hands-free unlocking will feel right at home.
To add a digital key, you’ll need to configure your smart lock through SmartThings using the Matter protocol. Once set up, unlocking your door becomes as effortless as carrying your phone.
Samsung is gradually releasing the Digital Home Key this month in select regions, with UWB support following in April. While initial availability may be limited, the rollout signals Samsung’s growing investment in smart home convenience and secure, keyless access.
Alongside this update, Samsung Wallet is expanding its functionality to include American Airlines boarding passes, further cementing the app as a central hub for digital convenience.
The Digital Home Key represents a shift toward more integrated smart home experiences. By combining NFC, UWB, and the Aliro standard, Samsung is creating a future where your phone can handle more than communication and entertainment—it can literally unlock your life.
For users who are tired of carrying keys or juggling multiple smart home apps, this feature offers a single, streamlined solution. Security and convenience merge, showing how mobile technology continues to transform everyday routines.
Samsung’s new feature reflects a broader trend in the tech world: eliminating traditional keys in favor of smart, digital alternatives. As more devices adopt standards like Aliro, the era of keyless homes could soon be the norm rather than the exception.
