Role Overview
This entry-level position supports the daily operation and upkeep of water treatment plant systems that supply safe drinking water in a remote, mission-focused setting. Working alongside certified operators, the Operator-in-Training learns how treatment processes are monitored, adjusted, and documented while helping keep equipment and facilities in reliable working order. The role is important because continuous water production depends on attentive routine checks, accurate sampling, and prompt response to changing conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist certified operators with start-up, shutdown, monitoring, and adjustment of water treatment processes to maintain potable water quality.
- Conduct scheduled rounds and visual inspections of pumps, tanks, chemical feed systems, filters, disinfection equipment, and related utility components.
- Collect water samples and perform basic field tests, then log results and operational readings accurately in required records.
- Learn and apply treatment concepts such as filtration, disinfection, chemical dosing, and process monitoring under direct supervision.
- Support preventive maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubrication, minor adjustments, and housekeeping of treatment areas and equipment.
- Observe alarms, gauges, meters, and abnormal conditions, report findings to senior operators, and take directed corrective action within assigned limits.
- Follow safety, environmental, and regulatory procedures during all work activities, including proper handling of treatment chemicals and use of personal protective equipment.
- Help prepare for inspections, audits, and compliance reviews by keeping documentation, sample logs, and facility areas organized and current.
Requirements & Qualifications
- One to three years of experience in utilities, water treatment support, industrial operations, or a comparable hands-on field.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Foundational knowledge of water treatment principles, mechanical systems, or utility plant operations.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions, standard operating procedures, and safety rules.
- Comfort working rotating shifts, weekends, and on-call schedules when required.
- Valid passport with at least one year of remaining validity at hire, and ability to travel internationally.
- Ability to pass and maintain contract medical screening requirements throughout deployment.
- Ability to obtain and keep facility credentials and authorization.
- Strong English communication skills in reading, speaking, and comprehension sufficient to carry out contract duties and follow installation emergency procedures.
