Location: Mai Mahiu, Kenya

Industry Sector: Engineering / Construction & Mining

Gross Salary Structure: Ksh. 80,000 per month

About the Company

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a market-leading enterprise within the construction and aggregate production industry. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a centralized Repairs and Maintenance Department in Mai Mahiu, driving mechanical excellence for a major player in infrastructure materials production.

Job Summary

We are seeking an analytical, hands-on Workshop Manager to direct all maintenance operations for heavy industrial machinery, high-volume crushing plants, and material handling systems. Your core mandate is to maximize production uptime and asset availability by spearheading comprehensive maintenance protocols. This role demands a seasoned engineering expert who can blend rigorous inventory control and safety compliance with sharp technical leadership, keeping secondary equipment failures to an absolute minimum while leading a skilled team of mechanical technicians.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet & Plant Maintenance Execution

  • Structure, schedule, and enforce detailed preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance frameworks for all active quarry plant installations.
  • Oversee the mechanical overhaul, structural alignment, and ongoing servicing of quarry crushing lines, massive conveyors, screening plants, industrial generators, and heavy dewatering pumps.
  • Direct the rapid diagnosis and systemic repair of sudden mechanical failures, minimizing production bottlenecks and operational line standstills.
  • Track asset lifecycle indicators and equipment reliability data to advise senior leadership on critical capital replacements and modifications.
  • Spearhead field response protocols during catastrophic machinery failures, serving as the technical authority on complex mechanical rebuilds.

Tactical Scheduling & Logistics Control

  • Generate and manage mechanical job cards, diagnostic checklists, post-repair inspection reviews, and long-term asset maintenance histories.
  • Coordinate the end-to-end procurement process for high-grade replacement parts, heavy workshop tools, and standard engineering materials.
  • Audit on-site stock levels for highly critical mechanical spares to prevent extended operational delays during component lead times.
  • Forecast monthly workshop operating expenses, tracking parts utilization metrics to keep maintenance costs strictly within defined budgets.

Workforce Coaching & Operational Flow

  • Provide daily supervision, technical instruction, and professional mentorship to the mechanical repairs team to drive elite execution standards.
  • Identify operational gaps in workshop output and apply modern workspace organization rules to streamline daily workflow pathways.
  • Conduct focused technical training sessions for junior plant mechanics regarding updated machinery standards and diagnostic software applications.
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering updates, cost analyses, and asset uptime records for regular submission to executive stakeholders.

Workplace Safety & Regulatory Standards

  • Enforce strict compliance benchmarks aligned with national occupational health, safety, and environmental protection guidelines.
  • Lead daily tool-box safety presentations and establish bulletproof workshop protocols to eliminate industrial physical hazards.
  • Execute scheduled structural safety audits across all mechanical bays, overhead crane systems, and mobile tool setups.
  • Ensure proper storage of hazardous oils, lubricants, and scrap components, enforcing pristine housekeeping rules across the facility.

Qualifications & Experience

Academic & Professional Baseline

  • Educational Foundation: Minimum of a Diploma or a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a strictly related industrial engineering field.
  • Industry Longevity: Minimum of 10 years of progressive, verifiable experience in heavy industrial machinery maintenance, with a minimum of 3 years spent executing clear supervisory or managerial roles.
  • Domain Context: Extensive field experience operating directly within a quarry, open-cast mining development, heavy construction project, cement processing plant, or massive manufacturing facility.
  • Technical Breadth: Demonstrated diagnostic proficiency covering primary material crushers, automated vibratory screens, heavy-duty belts, multi-phase industrial generators, and hydraulic systems.

Core Strengths

  • Crisis Resolution: Strong troubleshooting capacity under tight timelines, paired with the capability to manage complex mechanical emergencies under pressure.
  • Logistical Vision: Solid grasp of maintenance scheduling tools, stock optimization tactics, and budgeting principles within an engineering department.
  • Team Directive: Decisive leadership style focused on maintaining peak technician accountability and precise task execution.

Benefits

  • Industry Leadership Platform: Step into a vital operational role driving mechanical excellence for a major player in infrastructure materials production.
  • Rewarding Technical Scope: Command a broad operational footprint managing large-scale, heavy-duty engineering infrastructure.
  • Career Growth: Advance your engineering leadership credentials within a high-performance environment that prioritizes systematic operational efficiency.
