Warehouse Supervisor

Role Overview

This position centres on leading and coordinating the warehouse and yard workforce at a fertiliser handling facility, with a strong emphasis on vessel unloading, product loading, blending support, and maintaining clean, orderly operations. The supervisor ensures that the right number of workers are in place for every shift, that workflows run without unnecessary delays, and that all tasks meet client expectations for safety, quality, and output.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the full cycle of warehouse activity, from receiving and stacking to inventory control, order preparation, and dispatch, while keeping throughput and service levels on target.
• Plan shift-by-shift worker assignments for handlers, riggers, tally clerks, forklift operators, technicians, and support staff, adjusting coverage to match incoming vessel schedules and fluctuating volumes.
• Oversee stacking practices, stock rotation, and FIFO compliance, and work with client dispatch officers on inventory counts and accuracy checks.
• Improve space utilisation and workflow in both the warehouse and yard so that vessel unloading and truck loading turn around more quickly.
• Enforce site safety rules, proper use of personal protective equipment, and the organisation’s mobile-device policy, reporting any hazards or incidents immediately to the HESQ officer.
• Keep attendance records, shift logs, and productivity data, and deliver daily shift reports to client dispatch officers on time.
• Track team performance against client KPI targets for productivity, quality, and throughput, and flag shortfalls so corrective action can be taken.
• Support seasonal increases by helping source and onboard additional crew members, ensuring they are mobilised quickly during peak demand.
• Provide clear direction, on-the-job training, and constructive feedback to warehouse staff to maintain a disciplined and motivated team, and act as the first point of escalation for floor-level issues before involving the contractor operations manager.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A diploma or degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related discipline.
• At least three years of experience in warehouse logistics, inventory management, or port operations, with one to two years in a supervisory role.
• Proven leadership and organisational skills, including the ability to coordinate teams of 50 or more workers on short notice.
• Practical knowledge of warehouse and inventory systems; familiarity with WMS or ERP platforms is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and the capacity to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Occupational health and safety training, or willingness to complete the client’s HESQ induction.
• A valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
