Role Overview
As the plant’s Stores Controller, you’ll manage the movement and accuracy of materials from delivery through storage to issue, helping keep concrete-products production supplied without losing control of stock or supplier payments. You’ll work closely with Production and Procurement to anticipate demand, resolve delivery delays and maintain reliable records for every transaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Release materials only against authorised requisitions linked to production orders or maintenance work, and record each issue in the inventory system on the day it occurs.
- Inspect deliveries against the relevant LPO and delivery documentation, checking quantities, condition and specification before posting a GRN or approving a supplier bill.
- Report and reject shortages, damage or items that do not meet requirements; ensure supplier invoices are supported by matching order and receipt records.
- Set and review minimum stock levels, reorder points and MOQs for production materials, maintenance supplies, PPE, fuel and other essential consumables.
- Compare stock, outstanding orders and the production schedule each week, then prepare a replenishment plan with Production and Procurement.
- Monitor open orders, follow up on late deliveries and alert Procurement to risks that could affect plant operations; maintain daily order updates and monthly supplier delivery tracking.
- Keep the store organised and secure, maintain item locations and bin records, and apply FIFO where product shelf life requires it.
- Conduct stock counts, reconcile physical quantities with system records, investigate discrepancies and report slow-moving or obsolete inventory.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Proven experience managing stores or inventory control, preferably in manufacturing, construction materials or a comparable plant environment.
- Practical experience using an ERP or inventory system to process receipts, issues, adjustments and stock reports.
- Experience checking delivered goods against purchase orders and delivery notes, and maintaining accurate goods-received records.
- Knowledge of stock replenishment, reorder points and minimum order quantities.
- A diploma in Supply Chain, Procurement, Stores or Inventory Management, Business, or a related field. Progress toward CIPS or KISM qualification is an advantage.
- Strong accuracy, integrity and judgement, including the confidence to refuse unauthorised stock requests.
- Comfort working in an active plant environment where handling heavy materials and wearing PPE are part of the role.
What We Offer / Why Join
This role offers the opportunity to improve how materials are controlled and replenished at a production plant. Early priorities include learning the site’s systems, completing and reconciling a full stock count, and refining receiving and issue procedures. Over time, the role is expected to establish dependable replenishment routines, improve stock accuracy, reduce avoidable stock-outs and slow-moving inventory, and strengthen audit readiness.
