Role Overview
This is a hands-on editorial role for a journalist who thrives on the fast pace of politics and current affairs. You will be responsible for spotting the story first, securing the interview, shaping the script, and delivering video content that informs and engages audiences across television and digital platforms. Your work directly shapes public conversation around the issues that matter most, and you will have the autonomy to drive coverage from idea to finished piece.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor political, social, and national developments around the clock, identifying angles that will resonate with our audience.
- Research and develop current affairs stories for both broadcast and digital output, turning complex political issues into clear, compelling narratives.
- Pitch and produce timely video content when breaking political news demands immediate coverage.
- Prepare thoroughly for interviews with politicians, analysts, subject experts, and other newsmakers, ensuring every conversation is well-informed and revealing.
- Conduct engaging on-camera interviews and anchor live or pre-recorded multimedia programmes.
- Write broadcast-ready and digital-ready scripts that make political stories accessible and watchable.
- Collaborate with video editors and producers to assemble polished packages, from raw footage to final cut.
- Create short-form political videos designed specifically for social and digital audiences, optimising for shareability and discussion.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in political journalism, current affairs reporting, or a comparable editorial role.
- Strong news judgement and the ability to identify and prioritise compelling stories quickly.
- Excellent interviewing skills, with experience hosting or anchoring live or recorded shows.
- Superior writing and scriptwriting abilities for video, including the ability to simplify dense political information without losing accuracy.
- Comfort with video editing tools and multimedia storytelling workflows.
- Solid research skills and a track record of turning research into engaging, audience-first content.
- Familiarity with digital content strategies, social media platforms, and short-form video formats.
- A degree in journalism, communications, political science, or a related field is advantageous.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines, adapt to breaking news, and uphold high editorial ethics.
