Role Overview
This is a hands-on finance leadership position within a newly opened aparthotel on Nairobi’s Northern Bypass, where you will be responsible for building the property’s accounting backbone from the ground up. Day to day, you will balance daily revenue verification, cash flow oversight, and food and beverage margin control with direct supervision of the storekeeping, cost control, and payables functions. Your work matters because the executive team depends on your numbers and insights to run a profitable, compliant operation in a competitive hospitality market.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare daily revenue, occupancy, and average daily rate reports, complete with variance notes and explanations for the General Manager and Financial Controller.
- Own the full monthly accounting close, delivering management accounts, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and budget-to-actual analysis.
- Manage cash treasury functions, including petty cash floats, safe balances, daily banking across all outlets, and bank reconciliations.
- Monitor trade receivables and debtor aging, chase overdue accounts, and ensure collection timelines are consistently met.
- Track food, beverage, and operational costs against budget, audit recipe yields and gross margins, and investigate stock variances across kitchen and bar operations.
- Enforce statutory compliance by preparing and remitting VAT, PAYE, corporate tax, NSSF, SHIF, and Housing Levy before each deadline, while keeping records IFRS-compliant.
- Lead monthly physical stock takes, review supplier reconciliations and sub-ledger entries, and ensure all documentation is audit-ready for internal and external auditors.
- Supervise and develop finance support staff, including storekeepers, cost controllers, and payables accountants, while promoting accuracy and accountability across the team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a closely related field from a recognized university.
- CPA(K) finalist or fully qualified CPA(K); ACCA certification is an added advantage.
- At least five years of overall accounting experience, with a minimum of three years specifically in hotels, resorts, or serviced apartments.
- Hands-on proficiency with hotel property management systems, accounting platforms such as QuickBooks, SunSystems, or Sage, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Kenyan tax laws, statutory filing timelines, and IFRS reporting standards.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing or mentoring finance, storekeeping, or payables team members.
- Meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to meet strict month-end closing deadlines independently.
What We Offer / Why Join
This role offers the rare opportunity to shape the financial architecture of a new, growing hospitality brand rather than simply maintaining an existing system. You will sit at the centre of property operations with direct oversight of key departmental leads, and you will have room to grow professionally within Nairobi’s expanding serviced apartment and luxury hospitality market. The position comes with a gross monthly salary of KES 120,000.
