Tuition Teacher (Home-Based)

Role Overview

Provide one-to-one, home-based tuition to an upper primary learner in Joska, with particular attention to Mathematics and Science. The role combines curriculum-based teaching with targeted support for learning gaps, helping the learner build subject understanding, confidence and effective independent study habits.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan lessons around the Kenyan upper primary curriculum, prioritising Mathematics and Science topics that need reinforcement.
• Explain difficult ideas in clear steps, using practical examples, guided problem-solving and regular review.
• Identify gaps in prior learning and revisit essential concepts to strengthen the learner’s foundation.
• Use quizzes, practice papers and focused exercises to check understanding and guide future lessons.
• Adjust teaching methods and lesson pace in response to the learner’s progress and individual needs.
• Share constructive progress updates with parents or guardians, noting achievements, challenges and suggested next steps.
• Help the learner develop consistent routines for managing time, organising notes, revising and studying independently.
• Encourage concentration, critical thinking and confidence when approaching challenging work.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A recognised teaching qualification, such as a P1 Certificate, Diploma in Education, Bachelor of Education or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of upper primary Mathematics and Science, including the relevant Kenyan curriculum and assessment approaches.
• Experience in primary teaching, private tuition or home instruction is an advantage.
• Ability to make abstract or challenging topics accessible through clear explanations and suitable examples.
• Patience and flexibility to adapt instruction to a learner’s pace, strengths and areas for development.
• Clear communication skills for engaging with the learner and reporting progress to parents or guardians.
• Availability for full-time, home-based instruction in Joska.
