Role Overview
This position sits at the heart of the Bank’s Treasury function, with a primary focus on driving revenue through proprietary foreign exchange trading in major currencies and supporting the Islamic Banking Division’s client-facing FX solutions. Day to day, the role involves quoting competitive rates for the sales team, covering client flows across spot, forward, and swap instruments, and actively identifying hedging and trading opportunities that align with Sharia-compliant banking requirements. The work directly influences the Bank’s treasury profitability, delivery channel pricing, and the strength of its relationships with both institutional counterparties and retail clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate treasury income by trading foreign currencies in major pairs, taking calculated proprietary positions based on technical analysis and fundamental market interpretation.
- Provide live, competitive FX quotes to the sales desk and ensure efficient coverage of client flows across spot, swaps, and forwards.
- Collaborate closely with the Islamic Banking Division to structure and deliver Sharia-compliant foreign exchange solutions that meet client needs while boosting revenue.
- Monitor and manage the performance of retail and Islamic banking segments within the treasury portfolio, aligning trading activity with broader business targets.
- Build strong relationships with counterparties, regulators, internal sales teams, ALM, market risk, and other stakeholders to support product delivery and portfolio growth.
- Maintain and refine daily call sheets, tracking client interactions and conversion progress to maximise returns and build long-term loyalty.
- Coordinate with treasury back office, market risk, and reconciliation teams to resolve FX issues promptly and ensure seamless trade settlement.
- Share timely market intelligence and updates with the branch network and relevant internal parties, enabling informed decisions that manage risk and capture gains.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline; a master’s degree is a distinct advantage.
- Holding an ACI Dealing Certification is mandatory.
- At least five years of experience in a high-volume dealing room, with a proven track record in client quoting, market making, and managing spot and swap books.
- Hands-on proficiency with major FX trading platforms and electronic dealing systems.
- Strong working knowledge of local and global foreign exchange regulations, including limits, compliance requirements, and risk management frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and harness new trading and hedging opportunities that contribute directly to revenue growth.
- Self-driven and disciplined in prioritising tasks, meeting tight deadlines, and adapting quickly to shifting market conditions.
- Comfortable operating in a high-pressure, on-call dealing environment with minimal supervision, and willing to work outside normal banking hours when necessary.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, planning, and organisational skills, with strong report writing and presentation abilities.
- Solid understanding of banking operations, treasury processes, and both corporate and retail banking dynamics, alongside a genuine comfort with current technology trends.
