Role Overview
This position sits within Citi’s Treasury and Trade Solutions (TTS) division and is focused on generating new business across the Middle East & Africa region. Day to day, the role involves identifying and pursuing large-scale treasury opportunities with multinational corporations, government-linked entities, and public sector institutions, then leading the full sales cycle from initial engagement through mandate close and revenue booking. Success in this role directly expands Citi’s client base and wallet share in a strategically important, high-growth market.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and execute a business development plan specifically aimed at acquiring new TTS clients and increasing wallet share in the Middle East & Africa, targeting underpenetrated prospects and using wallet-sizing analytics.
- Source, lead, and close complex treasury deals covering cash management, payments, liquidity, receivables, payables, escrow, trade, and digital solutions, engaging C-suite and board-level decision makers at corporations, sovereign entities, and multilateral organisations.
- Manage the entire deal lifecycle: qualify opportunities, design tailored solutions, structure commercial terms, respond to RFPs, deliver client presentations, negotiate agreements, govern implementation handoffs, and ensure revenue is realised.
- Coordinate cross-functional deal teams drawn from Product, Banking, Implementation, Service, Risk, Legal, and Operations to create winning client outcomes and smooth transitions from sale to service.
- Drive client engagement through consultative selling and thought leadership, positioning Citi as a strategic treasury partner by staying current on treasury trends, payments innovation, regulatory shifts, and competitor moves in the region.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients while channelling market feedback and client intelligence back to Product and Coverage partners to influence product roadmaps and strategic priorities.
- Maintain rigorous sales discipline by managing a pipeline, forecasting accurately, leading regular deal reviews, using CRM tools, and tracking performance against annual goals for new client acquisition, revenue, deposits, and fee growth.
- Proactively acquire new treasury flows from corporates, government-owned enterprises, public sector bodies, and other strategic segments across the MEA market.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in transaction banking, treasury services, cash management, payments, trade finance, or corporate banking, with a strong focus on client-facing business development.
- Proven track record of originating and winning large, multi-country treasury mandates, including leading major RFPs, competitive bids, and complex negotiations from start to finish.
- Deep expertise in cash management, payments, liquidity management, and broader treasury and trade solutions, with the ability to design and articulate integrated solution architectures.
- Demonstrated success in building and sustaining senior-level relationships with CFOs, treasurers, finance directors, and government officials across diverse markets.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
