Technical Sales & Field Service Engineer — Reverse Osmosis Treatment Chemicals
Role Overview
This position pairs commercial ownership of a reverse osmosis chemical portfolio with hands-on plant-side troubleshooting, so the person in the seat spends part of the week in front of plant managers and the rest of it on site with samples, dosing pumps and membranes. The work exists to keep industrial RO trains running at stable recovery and low cleaning frequency, and to translate that operational result into recurring chemical supply contracts rather than one-off orders. Success looks like a customer who calls you first when their differential pressure climbs — because you are the person who already knows their water chemistry.
Key Responsibilities
- Grow revenue across the RO chemical line — antiscalants, dispersants, biocides, and clean-in-place / membrane cleaning formulations — within an assigned industrial territory.
- Perform site surveys and field audits, collecting water samples and membrane performance data to diagnose scaling, organic fouling, biofouling, and colloidal deposition.
- Build treatment recommendations from the ground up: product selection, dose rate calculations, injection point design, and optimisation of recovery and flux.
- Write and defend technical-commercial proposals, then present them to plant managers, process engineers, and procurement decision-makers.
- Run trial programmes and post-installation field evaluations, tracking chemical consumption and plant KPIs against agreed performance benchmarks.
- Act as first-line technical support when a customer's RO unit underperforms — investigating, recommending corrective action, and coordinating CIP procedures.
- Manage the account relationship over the long term, identifying expansion opportunities and renewals across repeat chemical supply.
- Keep accurate visit reports, sample logs, and pipeline records so that forecasting and follow-up are based on real field activity.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or HND in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Biochemistry, Process Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- 2–4 years in technical sales or field service engineering roles within the water and wastewater treatment sector.
- Demonstrated track record selling specialty treatment chemicals — RO antiscalants, membrane cleaners, coagulants, or flocculants.
- Working knowledge of RO membrane chemistry, scaling and fouling mechanisms, CIP methodology, and chemical dosing systems.
- Confident reading and interpreting water analysis reports and converting them into practical treatment recommendations.
- Familiarity with major membrane manufacturers' product ranges is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and troubleshooting abilities, with the credibility to hold technical conversations at plant level.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly to customer sites.
