Role Overview
You will work as part of a dedicated indirect tax team, helping clients navigate VAT, customs, excise and related tax obligations while supporting the firm’s broader tax advisory work. On a typical day, you will analyse client data, prepare technical opinions, engage with the Kenya Revenue Authority on disputes and audits, and contribute to proposals and publications. Your work matters because it directly protects clients from tax risk, resolves complex assessments, and upholds the firm’s reputation for high-quality, commercially sound advice.

- Conduct tax risk and opportunity reviews for clients, identifying exposures and practical ways to improve their indirect tax position.
- Assist clients in responding to Kenya Revenue Authority audits, including preparing submissions, objections and appeals against assessments.
- Act as a liaison between clients and the Kenya Revenue Authority on policy, procedural and technical tax matters.
- Draft tax opinions, advisory memoranda and client-ready publications, including articles on current and emerging indirect tax topics.
- Contribute to business development by preparing proposals, tenders and presentations, and by helping to shape new indirect tax products and services.
- Collect and analyse client and market data using standard tools and visualisation techniques to surface practical insights and recommendations.
- Support the wider tax function by sharing technical knowledge, assisting with coaching, and staying current on legislative and policy changes.

- A professional accounting qualification (for example, CPA, ACCA or equivalent).
- Two to three years of relevant experience in tax, with a significant portion focused on indirect taxation.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax issues clearly to clients and colleagues.
- Proven relationship-building and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage people and mentor junior team members.
- Good problem-solving, analytical and project management abilities, with attention to quality, risk and deadlines.
- Well-developed computer skills, including proficiency with data analysis tools and standard office software.
- Commercial awareness and negotiation skills, enabling you to balance technical accuracy with practical client outcomes.
