Role Overview
This position keeps the organization’s core ICT estate running: servers, networks, data-centre equipment, cloud services, and the everyday tools employees rely on. The administrator resolves escalated technical problems, strengthens security controls, and improves reliability through maintenance, documentation, and planned upgrades. The work directly supports business continuity, user productivity, and the safe delivery of technology change.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, tune, and monitor physical and virtual server environments, including operating systems, system utilities, and business applications.
- Keep LAN, WAN, VPN, wireless, internet links, and security appliances healthy; configure routers, switches, firewalls, and network services such as DNS, DHCP, and IP addressing.
- Carry out patching, upgrades, capacity checks, and preventive maintenance, then recommend changes that improve performance or resilience.
- Own backup, recovery, and continuity routines; test restores and disaster-recovery steps so critical services can return quickly after disruption.
- Act as an escalation point for user and system problems, handling second- and third-line incidents, tracing root causes, and closing tickets within service targets.
- Administer identities, permissions, and access rights; enforce security policies, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, and log monitoring.
- Maintain data-centre assets, storage, UPS, environmental monitoring, documentation, vendors, and support contracts.
- Contribute to ICT projects, migrations, rollouts, user training, and technical guides while mentoring less experienced ICT colleagues.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, systems engineering, or a comparable discipline.
- At least three years of active, hands-on experience in systems and network administration.
- Technical certifications such as MCSA/MCSE, CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or Security+ are strongly preferred.
- Practical experience with Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V, and cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Microsoft 365.
- Solid understanding of network security, firewall management, and backup or recovery solutions.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving ability, with close attention to detail and clear technical documentation habits.
- Confidence managing urgent technical incidents, prioritizing under pressure, and communicating effectively with users, vendors, and project teams.
Why Join
This role offers a broad remit across servers, networking, cloud, security, and data-centre operations rather than a narrow slice of infrastructure. It suits someone who wants to solve real operational problems, work with varied technologies, and see the direct effect of their work on business uptime. You will collaborate with users, vendors, and project teams while helping shape standards and practices for the wider ICT function.
