Role Overview
This position places a qualified teacher at the centre of a lively, faith-based learning community, carrying a class through the Competency Based Curriculum while also leading learners in the pool and on the field. You will design and deliver inquiry-driven lessons that put children's own questions and discoveries at the heart of the day, then step into the role of swimming instructor, sports coach and first responder when the timetable moves outdoors. Because the school treats academic growth, physical wellbeing and character formation as one continuous effort, the person in this seat matters well beyond the classroom walls.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and teach daily lessons aligned to the Competency Based Curriculum, translating strands and sub-strands into activities that build core competencies rather than relying on rote recall.
- Run an inquiry-based, learner-centred classroom in which children investigate, collaborate and reflect, using varied assessment methods to track and report individual progress.
- Teach swimming and water safety, supervising learners in the pool area and maintaining constant vigilance as a trained lifeguard.
- Coach and coordinate sports and physical education sessions, including preparation of learners for inter-house and inter-school co-curricular competitions.
- Serve as a first responder for injuries, illness and emergencies on school grounds, administering first aid and escalating cases appropriately.
- Maintain firm, warm and consistent classroom management, setting clear routines and expectations while remaining approachable and child friendly.
- Keep accurate records of attendance, assessment and learner portfolios, and communicate regularly with parents and guardians about progress and wellbeing.
- Contribute to the wider school programme — staff meetings, school events, devotions and co-curricular activities — as an engaged and dependable team member.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A P1 certificate, an upgraded Diploma, an ECD qualification, or another recognised combination of teacher training credentials.
- At least two years of hands-on teaching experience, ideally with early years or primary learners.
- Valid TSC registration.
- Trained in and confident with the Competency Based Curriculum, with a genuine understanding of and appreciation for how it works in practice.
- Swimming ability, recognised sports and physical education training, and current lifeguard certification.
- First aid training, with the readiness to apply it in a school setting.
- Demonstrable computer proficiency for lesson preparation, record keeping and reporting.
- Active involvement in co-curricular activities and a willingness to lead them, not merely supervise.
- Strong classroom management skills and a passion for working with young children.
- Alignment with inquiry-based, student-centred learning and the ability to translate that philosophy into daily practice.
- A team player who genuinely enjoys collaborative planning and group problem-solving.
- Strong written and oral interpersonal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, energetic and comfortable in a busy, fast-moving school environment.
- Flexible and open to change, with a positive attitude and a naturally child-friendly manner.
- A committed Christian who will support the school's faith-based ethos.
- A valid certificate of good conduct.
