Patient Access Representative

Role Overview

The Patient Access Representative coordinates prescription information and insurance approvals for patients, working with healthcare providers and payers to address missing documents and authorization obstacles. By maintaining reliable records and following up promptly across multiple accounts, this remote role helps patients move through access processes with fewer delays.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect prescription details and submit or obtain insurance authorization information for an assigned group of patients.
• Contact provider offices and insurance payers to confirm requirements, request records, and check authorization status.
• Identify incomplete or conflicting documentation and coordinate corrections with the appropriate parties.
• Verify patient insurance eligibility and update account information as needed.
• Keep patient records and authorization files accurate, organized, and handled in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
• Communicate clearly with patients, provider offices, payers, and internal colleagues about access-related needs.
• Track follow-ups and manage competing account tasks while meeting expected timelines.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least two years of experience in healthcare administration, medical office operations, or insurance.
• High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree is preferred.
• Experience with insurance authorizations is preferred, along with familiarity with eligibility checks and patient access workflows.
• Knowledge of medical documentation practices, patient records, and HIPAA compliance.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple accounts, and follow through reliably in a remote environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and professional virtual communication.
• Reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated, quiet workspace.
