Role Overview
As a Stock Controller, you will be the person who keeps the physical stock on the shelves and the numbers in the system telling the same story. Working closely with receiving, warehousing and purchasing colleagues, you will track goods in and out, investigate discrepancies before they become losses, and make sure the inventory records that drive ordering and customer promises are accurate and current. Reliable stock information is what allows the business to plan purchases sensibly, avoid costly overstocking or stockouts, and keep operations running without interruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Record all stock movements accurately, including receipts, issues, transfers, returns and write-offs, in the inventory management system.
- Conduct regular physical stock counts and cycle counts, then reconcile the results against system records and report variances.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies by tracing documentation, checking goods received notes and querying discrepancies with relevant departments.
- Monitor stock levels against agreed minimum and maximum thresholds, flagging items that are running low, overstocked or slow-moving.
- Support the receiving process by verifying quantities and item details against delivery documentation before stock is accepted into inventory.
- Maintain organised records and filing of stock documents so that any transaction can be traced and audited when required.
- Produce routine stock reports for management, highlighting shrinkage, adjustments and any recurring accuracy issues.
- Follow established stock control procedures and housekeeping standards in the storage area to protect goods from damage, loss or misplacement.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Warehousing or a closely related field.
- One to two years of hands-on experience in a similar stock control, stores or inventory role.
- Demonstrated experience with stock control practices and maintaining accurate inventory record keeping.
- Basic computer literacy, with the ability to work confidently in inventory or stock management systems and standard spreadsheets.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to counting, checking and reconciling figures.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on warehouse or stores environment, including time spent on your feet checking physical stock.
- Good verbal and written communication skills for reporting variances and coordinating with other departments.
- Ability to work independently on routine tasks while staying accountable for the accuracy of your records.
