Role Overview
As Stock In Charge, you own the accuracy and flow of everything held in the store — from the moment goods arrive at the door until they are issued to the teams that need them. You keep the inventory system and the physical shelves telling the same story, so purchasing, production and finance can plan on numbers they can trust. When stock records are right, deadlines are met, costs stay controlled and operations keep moving without interruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive incoming deliveries, check quantities and condition against purchase orders and delivery documents, and record receipts promptly in the inventory system.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date stock records by logging all receipts, issues, transfers and returns as they happen, not at the end of the week.
- Carry out regular cycle counts and scheduled physical stocktakes, reconcile the results against system balances, and resolve variances.
- Monitor stock levels against agreed minimum and maximum thresholds, and raise requisitions or purchase requests in time to avoid shortages or overstocking.
- Organise the store so every item has a defined, labelled location, and apply correct rotation so older stock is issued before newer stock.
- Investigate and document discrepancies, damaged goods, expired items and shrinkage, and escalate findings with clear supporting evidence.
- Prepare periodic stock reports — closing balances, consumption, slow-moving and obsolete items — for management and the purchasing function.
- Coordinate day to day with procurement, warehouse, production and suppliers on delivery schedules, shortages, replacements and returns, while keeping the store clean, secure and compliant with health and safety rules.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Two to three years of hands-on experience as a Stock In Charge, Storekeeper, or in a comparable stock-handling position.
- Solid working knowledge of inventory management principles and stock control methods, including receiving, issuing, rotation, counting and reconciliation.
- Practical experience with inventory software or an ERP system for recording and tracking stock movements.
- Strong organisational skills and a methodical approach to record-keeping and store layout.
- Analytical and problem-solving ability, particularly when tracing the cause of stock variances or reconciling conflicting figures.
- Composure and accuracy under pressure, with a track record of meeting counting, reporting and dispatch deadlines.
- Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Procurement, or a related discipline.
