Role Overview
In this position, you will act as the day-to-day lead for a designated area or set of areas within a sports facility, keeping operations safe, organized, and welcoming. You will coordinate facility readiness, respond to member needs, and work behind the scenes with other teams so that scheduled sports activities start on time and run smoothly. Your presence helps protect both the people who use the facility and the organization's standard for reliable, high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities
- Open, close, and inspect assigned sports areas, checking surfaces, lighting, nets, goals, barriers, and access routes for safety and readiness.
- Prepare and reconfigure courts, fields, or training zones for bookings, classes, leagues, and other scheduled activities.
- Monitor how members and visitors use the facility, enforce venue rules, and address unsafe or inappropriate behavior before it escalates.
- Track sports equipment and supplies, coordinate routine maintenance or repairs, and keep storage areas organized and stocked.
- Serve as the first point of contact for member questions, concerns, and complaints, resolving routine issues and escalating matters that need a manager's attention.
- Follow health, safety, and emergency procedures, including administering first aid, documenting incidents, and reporting hazards or near misses.
- Liaise with coaches, instructors, cleaners, security, and maintenance staff to keep daily schedules and facility standards on track.
- Maintain operational records such as inspection logs, incident reports, equipment checks, and facility usage notes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: A certificate or diploma in sports management, physical education, recreation management, or a related field.
- Certification: Current first aid certification and/or a recognized sports safety credential.
- Experience: At least three years overseeing operations at a sports facility.
- Facility operations: Working knowledge of sports venue procedures, equipment care, and facility-use or booking systems.
- Health and safety: Understanding of occupational health and safety, emergency response, and basic risk management in sports settings.
- Member service: Ability to handle routine member enquiries and complaints with patience, clarity, and professionalism.
- Communication and judgement: Strong coordination skills, attention to detail, and the confidence to make sound decisions during busy periods or incidents.
